Flights & transport

How to get to Indonesia and travel between islands. Flights, connections and local transport.

How to get to Indonesia

There are no direct flights from the Czech Republic. The most common connections go via Istanbul, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. For Sumatra, you fly into Medan (Kualanamu airport, KNO). For Sulawesi, into Makassar (UPG) or Manado (MDC). Total travel time from Prague is approximately 16–22 hours including the layover.

Flight booking tips

We recommend booking flights 3–6 months in advance. Comparison tools like Google Flights or Skyscanner help find the best prices. For longer trips, consider domestic flights (e.g. Medan–Padang). We recommend online check-in 24 hours before departure — airlines often oversell seats.

Getting around

All local transport is included in the trip price: private car with driver for transfers, motorbikes with riders for shorter routes and off-road, speedboat to Pulau Banyak islands (2–3 hours from Singkil port), ferry to Samosir island on Lake Toba. Public transport in Indonesia exists but is unreliable and slow — that’s why we don’t use it for our clients.

How we handle it

We recommend the optimal connection and help with booking flights — including domestic ones. We handle all local transport (car, boats, motorbikes) completely. Our guide picks you up at the airport.

Online check-in

Online check-in is usually available 24 hours before departure on the airline’s website. Main advantage: you secure your seat and reduce the risk of being bumped to another flight due to overbooking. If you don’t check in online, nothing critical happens — you’ll do it at the airport counter.
