12 days northern Sulawesi
Volcanoes, rainforests, tarsiers and the underwater paradise of Bunaken
Northern Sulawesi is one of the most fascinating yet least discovered regions of Indonesia. In a compact area, it offers active volcanoes, tropical rainforests with endemic fauna, the Minahasa region with its exceptional culture, and some of the best coral reefs in Southeast Asia.

Route overview
Manado → Tomohon → Minahasa → Tangkoko → Pulisan → Bunaken → Manado
Volcanoes & Minahasa highlands
Four days in the volcanic Minahasa region — active craters, sulfuric lakes, mountain villages and rafting through tropical rainforest. A region where volcanoes shape both the landscape and way of life.
Tomohon & Minahasa volcanoes
Arrival in Manado, transfer to mountain town Tomohon. Climb of Mount Lokon-Empung — trail across lava fields from 1990s eruptions to the active crater. Lunch with a local family in Kayawu village, prepared in bamboo and banana leaves.
Mount Mahawu & Lakes Tondano and Linow
Climb of Mahawu — accessible crater with an acidic lake and bubbling sulfuric pools. Lake Tondano — 30 km long, surrounded by rice paddies and fishing villages. Sulfuric Lake Linow, its color shifting from turquoise to golden hues depending on the light.
Rafting on the Nimanga River
Full-day rafting through the tropical rainforest of Minahasa. Narrow valley with jungle vegetation, waterfalls and rock walls. Area with minimal human intervention. 4–5 hours on the water, suitable even for beginners.
Rainforests & beaches
Transition from mountains to ocean. Tangkoko National Park with the world’s smallest primates, pristine Pulisan beaches and the traditional Tomohon market — the green heart of northern Sulawesi.
Tomohon market & Waruga & Pulisan
The famous Tomohon market — supplying the entire region with vegetables and fruit. Waruga stone tombs — ancient Minahasa civilization, burial in a seated position. Transfer to the north coast to Pulisan beaches — turquoise sea, white sand, minimal tourists.
Tangkoko National Park
Biologically one of the most valuable territories on Sulawesi. Trek with a local ranger to find tarsiers — the world’s smallest primates. Black macaques, hornbills, the rare maleo bird. Night wildlife observation in their natural habitat.
Free days by the sea
Snorkeling, beach walks, time for reading and photography. Pulisan — a place where time has stopped, without mass tourism.
Underwater paradise of Bunaken
Bunaken National Park — one of the world’s most significant diving and snorkeling spots. Coral walls, extraordinary biodiversity and clear water in the heart of the Coral Triangle.
Transfer to Bunaken
Speed boat to Bunaken Island in the heart of the protected marine park. Coral Triangle area — thousands of fish species, sea turtles, manta rays. Accommodation in a resort right on the island.
Snorkeling & diving
Two to three days on Bunaken and possibly neighboring Siladen Island. Steep coral walls (drop-offs), exceptionally clear water, high biodiversity. Exceptional snorkeling for non-divers. Boat trips to surrounding islets.

How physically demanding is the program?
Moderately demanding. Volcano climbs (2–3 hours) and rafting require basic fitness. We adapt the program to your pace. Days on Bunaken and Pulisan are for rest.
