Three weeks across one of the wildest and most diverse islands in the world. Western and northern Sumatra — from traditional Minangkabau culture through volcanic landscapes and Gunung Leuser rainforest to pristine Indian Ocean islands.

Ten days through western and northern Sumatra. Minangkabau culture, dramatic canyons, royal palaces, crossing the equator and the largest volcanic lake in the world.

Bukittinggi & surroundings

Ecological lodge surrounded by rice paddies. Japanese wartime caves, the iconic Jam Gadang clock tower and first encounter with Minangkabau culture — an ethnic group known for buffalo-horn shaped architecture.

Sianok Canyon & Lake Maninjau

One of Sumatra’s most beautiful canyons in morning light. Volcanic Lake Maninjau with a breathtaking view from above. Traditional sugarcane juice production using water buffalo and a trek to find rafflesia in the Batang Palupuh reserve.

Harau Valley & Pagaruyung Palace

A valley nicknamed "Indonesia’s Yosemite" — monumental rock walls, waterfalls and rice paddies. A replica of the Minangkabau royal palace with the option to try on traditional ornate costumes.

Journey through the interior

A two-day drive through the least visited part of Sumatra. Crossing the equator in Bonjol, Sipoholon thermal springs. Authentic Sumatra off the main routes.

Lake Toba & Samosir Island

The largest volcanic lake in the world and center of Batak culture. Traditional dances in Simanindo, stone chairs in Ambarita, thermal springs and an EcoVillage with mango wine production.

BLUE LINE

Islands & ocean

Four days on the uninhabited Pulau Banyak islands in the Indian Ocean. Disconnecting from civilization, snorkeling, island hopping and bioluminescent plankton.

Palambak Island

Uninhabited island with wooden bungalows by the beach. Full board from fresh ingredients, generator until 10 PM. Then silence, stars and bioluminescent plankton in the sea.

Island hopping & snorkeling

Turtle hatchery, Sikandang and Asok coral reefs, lighthouse on Ringit Island. Tropical fish, manta rays, turtles and small reef sharks in surrounding waters.

Free days on the island

Swimming, snorkeling, fishing, walks. Space for genuine disconnection and processing experiences before returning to the busier part of the program.

GREEN LINE

Rainforest & orangutans

The final part of the expedition in Gunung Leuser National Park. Mount Sibayak, Bukit Lawang, a two-day jungle trek and traditional rafting.

Brastagi & Mount Sibayak

Climbing an active volcano at sunrise. Hot springs, traditional market and a stop in Sidikalang for local arabica coffee straight from growers.

Bukit Lawang & Gunung Leuser NP

Eco-lodge at the edge of the rainforest. Nature walks, bat caves, visit to the Jungle School project. En route: Sipiso-Piso waterfall, ghost village near Sinabung and traditional Lingga village.

Two-day jungle trek

Trek deep into the rainforest with an overnight in a jungle camp. Orangutans, gibbons, macaques. Return by traditional rafting on the Bohorok River.

Tangkahan / Batu Katak & Medan

Elephant center or rafflesia trek (depending on season). Then Medan — palace, mosque, museum, cuisine at Merdeka Walk and departure.

Morning motorized canoe trip on the Gedang River through the Singkil wetlands. Observing crocodiles in their natural habitat.

A night on an uninhabited island, one of the last sea turtle nesting sites in the world. Adult turtles lay eggs every night, hatchlings emerge every morning.

Will we have internet access?

In cities and tourist areas, yes. In the jungle and on islands, connectivity is limited or none — many clients see this as a welcome part of the experience.

Can children travel with us?

Yes, families with children do travel with us. It always depends on the child’s age, fitness and travel experience.

We don’t speak Indonesian. Is that an issue?

No. Our guides are used to working with international clients and understand different cultures. Communication works smoothly.
